Feels kinda weird posting another link to a blog on my “blog”. Oh let’s get real.. I don’t “blog, blog”. Anyhoo, I wrote a little something something for my friend Dion’s blog. She works at the station and her writing is amazing. Her blog, Life During the Commercial Breaks is all about the adventures of a news anchor! She is one in a million folks. Check out my contribution Not Your Average Traffic Lady & while you’re there, poke around and check out her other stuff. She brilliant, funny, honest… And super STYLISH!!!
I was a HUGE Madonna fan growing up. The longevity of her career is in part to her constant reinvention. I get it, you have to do that to stay in the game for 30 + years. While the “new ” Madonna is not my cup of tea, I can respect her drive and ambition to try and stay relevant. After last nights VMA’s, Miley Ray Cyrus has been dubbed “the new material girl” which couldn’t be further from the truth. She reinvents herself every other week and changes her circle of friends just as much. Is that talent or a bad trip?
What did you think of her “performance” on the VMA’s? Is it a fair comparison? I’m curious to see what Mike Shelton thinks…
PSA: DO NOT…I REPEAT DO NOT LISTEN TO HER NEW FREE ALBUM. YOUR EARS WILL BLEED IF YOU ARE OVER 30 AND DRUG FREE.
And alittle reminder of how DOPE Madonna (as an old lady) is although I did like “Wrecking Ball”
I am a HUGE 90210 fan and entitled this one 9021-HO. This is how it WOULD HAVE went down if Dylan broke up with a black girl.
So my hubby Mike Shelton gave me a 65 minute motivational speech on why I need to do youtube videos. Little did he know I did in the past when I was directing traffic on Wilkinson Blvd so I decided to post and it was about fun stuff…INCLUDING #coconutoil #celebrities#sofiavergara #skeletore Watch it! Be Kind and LIKE it and maybe SHARE it. There you go Mike …. more to come per my husband…That’s what a good marriage does…pushes you to make a fool of yourself online. This ones for you Shelton! #meetheather
I am seriously OBSESSED with COCONUT OIL. Like for real..its the best thing ever created. I share tons of things about my life on the podcast so why not share this too. It will change your life. Here are 5 Ways to use coconut oil for things other than cooking..
1. Oil Pulling
Ok I know the SOUNDS WEIRD but stay with me..Oil pulling can not only whiten your teeth but improve gum health. Sold? Here’s how you do it…Put 1 tablespoon in your mouth and let it melt. Swish it around in your mouth for 20 min and then spit ( I know kinda gross) in a bag or container (coconut oil hardens so you don’t want to spit down the drain) and that’s it. I do it in the shower so it doesn’t get too messy and then spit. Brush your teeth right after and you are good to go!
2. Its Antibacterial
This stuff is amazing. It can be used to treat yeast infections and for the mamas…its a natural diaper cream. I saw a friend use it years ago and it worked right before my eyes. It is easy on the baby’s skin and so easy to use.
3. Makeup Removal
This is my favorite. Long gone are the years of ripping my face to shreds with soap and water or using chemicals to get off the not so easy black eye liner. Put some coconut oil on a baby wipe or wet paper towel (or dry but it doesn’t feel that great at first) and go for it. It literally comes right off without rubbing hard. We put really heavy makeup on for TV and I found that it took FOREVER to get the stuff off, especially if I was headed to the gym right after work. Using coconut oil takes seconds. The toughest eyeliner can’t stand up to it! No need to wash it off. Just leave it on you face and go!
And while you are at..use it for your ENTIRE body. My kid suffered from severe eczema and coconut oil helped tremendously. Some of the best creams out there have coconut oil in them. It’s so good my hubby even uses it to shave. And you can put in in your hair as a conditioner. It works wonders especially for my curly haired girls out there.
5. Weight Loss/Energy Boost
Eat a tablespoon of coconut oil in the morning and watch yourself go. I’ve even put in my green tea with a little local honey. That’s a double whammy because the honey helps with allergies. Just wait for it….the energy is coming my friends.
Those are my top 5 reasons I love the stuff. I also pop popcorn on the stove with it and people swear I work at AMC Movie Theatre. It tastes just like the good stuff but with a better fat. If you LOVE sweet potatoes then try coating them with coconut oil, wrap in foil, bake at 375 for an hour and EAT. They are the sweetest things you’ve ever had. My sister, who is a SUGAR queen, even dropped her candy habit and opts for this treat instead. It will curb your sweet tooth in a minute!
I also immediately put it on mosquito bites to reduce itching. As soon as I get a small cut, I run for the coconut oil instead of neosporin because like I mentioned earlier…its antibacterial. Last but not least, it helps with cradle cap for the kiddos. Just put on their scalp and use a soft toothbrush or comb to get it off the scalp. My kid had a really bad case of the cap and this was a lifesaver.
Welp there you have it. If you have any other uses or tips please leave a comment. And hear ALLLLL about my crazy relationship with my crazy husband on the podcast. Oh and like us on FB. #ILOVECOCONUTOIL
The NBC Charlotte morning team decided to participate in the #icebucketchallenge to raise awareness and money for ALS…
It was the coldest morning in August sitting right around 60 degrees and WE decided to pour a bucket of ICE WATER on our heads. It was freezing but a great time with the team. Came home and watched it and I had to go put on a sweatshirt #iceicebaby
So I haven’t been shooting anything lately and have actually had to turn down work because…. I got a new JOB! I am the new traffic anchor weekdays on NBC Charlotte. Been a crazy month in a half learning and training but its been a blast. The morning team is awesome as well as everyone over at WCNC. We are looking out for you Queen City and I’ve got your morning commute covered!
Time to sit back and unwind. Here it is a groove slightly transformed…
I won’t go there but you know that song is worthy enough to get stuck in your head all day. It’s finally here, warm wether cookouts and water slides. I have to admit these past five months have flown by being out on my own. Between video shoots, improv classes, dirty clothes and even dirtier diapers, a girl has been busy. Coffee dates with friends and random matinee movies have made these five months awesome. I can’t say it hasn’t had challenges or that I’m scared as hell sometimes with our bank account on tilt and not in a good way, but alas, its SUMMERTIME. Summer brings a fresh perspective, new adventures, playdates, and beaches. Here’s a bit of an update on life :
I recently shot my first music video for a extremely talented singer songwriter Ms Arsena Schroeder who is brillant. We had a blast and it was a first for the both of us. I’ll post when its complete. Until then, go check out her music. The girl can sannnggggg.
I have also started taking improv classes. Seriously this is what makes my heart sing. I have never had so much fun and the cool thing is I went into this alone. I didn’t know anyone and had to make all new friends with the people in my class. They are all so differenent and we probably would never have met had it not been for this class. But we are learning to trust one another and its really an amazing experience. A dream job for me would be on SNL so you never know ninjas…
The terrorist is still not potty trained which bothers me yo, it really does BUT he can “pee pee” in the potty so thats a start. He is such an awesome kid. Really. He sings any and every song that he hears and it melts my heart. Our extra time together has been so precious.
Last but not least Shake The City is full steam ahead. We have 4 events under our belt. We learn alot each and every month and the response has been awesome. Oh and I built the website which is not my specialty but it turned out good. Check it out for more info on the event.
That is all my friends. Until next time…
Just a bit of a break from the norm
Just a little somethin’ to break the monotony
Of all that hardcore dance that has gotten to be
A little bit out of control it’s cool to dance
But what about the groove that soothes that moves romance
Give me a soft subtle mix
And if ain’t broke then don’t try to fix it
And think of the summers of the past
Adjust the base and let the alpine blast
Pop in my cd and let me run a rhyme
And put your car on cruise and lay back cause this is summertime
Oh snap is really oh snap. Let’s just say that I may have a really awesome awesomenessly awesome opportunity to grow in my field and work with a dear friend. She is the Jedi master and just the potential of being able to learn from her has got me having butterflies in my stomach. I’m excited, scared, nervous all in one which means that I’m alive right? I’m pumped and will post pics when this goes down. Man oh man I love what I do!! This is top secret for no other reason than its so out of my comfort zone that I can’t say it out loud. So wish me luck on my mission impossible type job that’s gonna be amazing. I know it!!!
A couple of random things I’m enjoying right now in the FUNemployement/Freelance world
The Wanted..I Found You. Come on, such a fun tune to dance to…

My baby boy is in full fledge terrible two’s and its terrible and hysterical and that same time. Sometimes I don’t know if I should laugh or spank him. He’s really quite funny…
